I slowly move out of the infamous CA to TA because after playing with my build I'd rather like to try to design 4 player party build (I know enough part-time PvP players to form a TA team from time to time). But since half of the fun is building characters I'd really like to unlock most or all of the skills before fully moving to PvP and not having to play my unlocked chars (monk and mesmer) all the time with limited room for variation.

he has a point about that. area.net think they are fixing things by nerfing farming builds (and ele's and other normal builds that got effected badly by the nerfs) but all they are doing is removing ways of getting any decent money and now all we have is trading (now that green items are perfecto emmm forget that then) so the only realy way of getting decent money before we die is ebay

Quite frankly, if you want it, be patient. Farm collector's items and sell them for a couple platinum in the earlier areas of the game. Odds are at that point newer players would be willing to shell out what gold they have for perfect items because they don't have that "I need money to buy 15k armour" attitude yet. Nothing pleases me more than sitting in Marhan's Grotto or Granite Citadel and hearing someone say "wtf, the stats are the same. im not getting this, whats the point?".
Also, there are COUNTLESS farming builds on this site, and every fansite for that matter. If you don't have that class, then make one. Don't whine that your class can't farm because someone hasn't already found a method for you to copy. Some classes can't do it as well as others, accept your limitations or prove them otherwise. These items were put into the game so hardcore gamers have something to strive towards. A casual player can't expect to compete on the same level of wealth as these people. Money is like fame, and neither one represents a player's level of skill.

No, you want the henge sword because it is quite simply the best one handed item available for a monk, and to a lesser extent for other casters.
+5 energy
+20% enchanting
Those mods are equivalent to a perfect Insightfull staff of Enchanting. In ONE hand.

rockmoulder is good but not overly too powerful. the 10% version is still around. since they were removed from the game they are now considered rare. rare doesn't make it too powerful.

The 20% on all skills rockmoulder is again, probobly the best off-hand item in the game available.
Quote:
those items do not make or break a team. all comes down to skills and runes. always has always will.

Of course they don't, that has very little to do with it. You underestimate the lengths a commited player will do to gain even a slight advantage.
An Example: After finding out that there was a focus that got you -2 energy with a couple of nice bonuses as one of the 50% chance rewards in the cities of ascalon quest, 5 of the people I know started farming that quest. Which means making a new character, taking them all the way through pre-searing, doing probobly the longest quest in the early part of the game, (having to do North Wall/Ranik/Surmia) for a 50% chance of getting the focus.
Is it that great? No, but it is better than anything else going, which is why they did it. If you consider yourself good at playing a monk, for instance, you would want the BEST weapon sets. And by good I mean playing at a near top level of play.

Just how ARE you supposed to make money?
Being a complete newb at this, only having the game a little over a week. I was over the moon getting 700g for a vial of silver dye!
I am busy saving up for items, just as I would in the real world. The items are for practicallity reasons and not looks. Looking good and dying lots is not my idea of fun, having a challenge is much better for me.
I'm currently running a N/W level 9 and she is great fun to play. I have no idea on what I should play, PVP or PVE? So currently I'm PVP. I don't know if I should go to arenas? I have the special edition which came with an unlock code but I have to see a priest of balthazar, which I am assuming is in the arena areas (I assume because I find no reference to them anywhere else)
I like the idea of trading, but wished they would have created a way to barter more with the merchants.
I would like to be able to unlock abilities to open chests without keys, I don't think they are available are they? It could be usefull for the new character class?
Everything has a value! In the real world you have people earning a living on ebay, so why not in an online community? Yes I WANT a supercar but I don't NEED a supercar, if I had the money would I buy one? Yes, if I did not need the money for something I NEED.
I am on the look out for items that others would probably say is of no real value at all, I currently have a truncheon with 6-11 dark damage and an axe with 11-16 damage, so looking to just upgrade from that. Yet I don't see many people selling gear priced for lower end users. I don't want weapons that will kill most of my enemies in one or two strikes, for the current level I am at.
Looks are important for some people and they spend a lot of money on looking good or different, true both online and real world.
It is human nature to want the best of something, but sometimes you have to compromise along the way.

think what he said.
100K/HOUR
if you dont think a bunch of those clowns are not going to disrupt the economy you are...............??
the game was not intended to be farm fest simulator and if you do lower areas you can still farm for smaller crops
even higher areas simply take more time or a friend

If ANet made EVERYTHING easy to get - be it black dyes, FoW Armor, 15/50 weapons - the same people would complain, after getting those, there is not enough content in the game.
Point is, those things are meant to be very difficult to get - just like Tiger emote or winning the hall for PvP players.
And if you don't have it? It does not affect your capabilities at all. You can do the same damage and defend against the same attack as anyone. Hell - almost every weapon in game looks exactly the same (except for the obvious crystallines and fellblades and etc)!!
Only the moron in PvP arena that needs to Control click his green bow allows me to understand why his 'green' is cooler than my PvP Bow.
Then of course he casts mending FTW.

100k / hour :
flesh golems : gold cash + gold drops.
the "100k" is probably too much, but the idea is here : you made a lot more than after all the nerfs. Not talking about underworld solo, where 100k/hour was (is ?)EASILY possible.
Personally I don't care now, I play 99% pvp. The pve frustrated me too much. Really. Why do you think koreans just gave up the game ?

gave up the game?
they were only a small fraction to begin with.
GW doesnt have the grind factor (for a term) and the continous reward system of the most popular games over there.
what most complainers miss is that anybody coming in expecting the same old same old will be either poorly or happily surprised.
GW is staking out new territory as a nitch market and nobody knows how big that *nitch* may become.
possibly that NITCH MARKET may grow to equal the others (or not) but one thing is sure.
a relatively few forum complaints will not steer them far from what they have planned.
i am one of the nitch players this game calls to and i am having fun with it.
800+ hours from presell and still having PVE fun

i used to farm the trolls outta droks, getting some black dye and some good crap once and a while, took a break from game, got on, NERFED. the trolls run from spiteful and mark of pain and junk and i can t farm. so i stopped farming, selling what i had, made 100k. spent on 15k armor. now this is drastic, and very sad for someone to do, lol i scammed someone (i know, i know its low) and got 40k off them, and gave it back because it was a "new" player (lvl 10 in droks?). then im banned, so i have to wait 160 sumthin hours. 46 to go! WOOT! lol, now i still ahve to figure out how to make money. before i got banned i ran the northern wall 400g a piece, pretty good. but slow, or go into FOW or UW. same with me, honestly, buy for low, sell high, ( example - wtb iron 8g each, sell for 11g each) or sell some stuff u get from uw or fow like ecto. other than that your screwed, im pretty poor (80k) well, i hope there is sumthin we can find to help this out.

Why do people say that just playing the game will give you enough to buy 15 k armor? I've played since May for about 2-3 hours a day and still have seen no more than 40k in my total bank account

I dont know that to be true either.
Maybe, at one point in time, just playing throught the game and even through UW and places like that would have earned you a full set of 15k armor, (crafting materals and dyes too) and then your broke, assuming you never pick up a superior absorbtion rune or something.
15k armor are pretty hard to obtain without some sort of farming if even just a little to get you over the hump.
I think tombs was designed to get fortune quickly in this aspect when farming wasnt considered a serious option or threat.

I'm in your niche as well...
To me, I am not done with a game until I have beaten it...solo. That's without henchmen (unless it's absolutely, positively impossible to do).
That is the most frustrating yet satsifying thing anyone can do keep their interest in the game.
Doing that also provides you with a good amount of money to support your adventuring exploits...much more satisfying than farming any day of the week.

the frustration of finding 10 different ways to get killed and then finding what will work on the 11th and then...........getting smacked again.
some people finished the game in 3 days and i didnt get my first character out of presear for a week.
i still keep one presear because it is a fun pretty place just to wander for a vacation.
same for my guild island as a vacation spot and when guild storage is done i will have extra space for goodies.
i simply give away the golds/purples i find to new players to watch them have fun.
i got a non perfect (always nonperfect) deadbow with 19 % longer enchanting today that i will keep but why couldnt it have been 20% so it would be perfect?

A new player arrives at GW. At some point he ears about the FOW armor.
He wants it. Well he can't have it. He can't afford it.
Then somebody says: "Hey! You don't need it, it's only cosmetics!"
What's the new player thinking?
"Why does it exists if I can not have it?" - of course
IF nobody can afford the FOW armor AND it's only cometics THEN why doesn't Anet takes it way like i.e. the HoD sword?
Who has the FOW armor, keeps it, who hasn't, will never get it.
Bottom line: If nobody can have, WHY THE HELL DOES IT EXISTS??
